e day, and so many toys to play with, and people to sniff!!  I love meeting new folks, and there isn't a toy in the world that I wouldn't love, even if it's a little too big for me.  I might be small on the outside, but I'm big on the inside!  See??  

Don't you think I'm cute??  I have an all-white body and a mostly black head, so I'm kind of unusual, but I think it's unique!

Lily!

Hello everyone - my name is Lily!

Yup, just like the flower - although I probably don't quite smell like one, I'm as pretty as one, or so the volunteers here at the APS tell me!

I'm a pit bull mix, and I'm pretty young - maybe around a year or two, but no one knows for sure!  I'm really glad to be here at the APS.  When I first got here, I had a lot 

of sores around my neck.  The nice people here tell me that I was probably chained up with a rope or padlock around my neck, and it rubbed my skin very raw.  That wasn't any fun at all!  But I've healed up very nicely, and I'm as sweet as can be, even though I wasn't treated very well before.

I like to play, and other dogs are ok, but really all I want is a nice human or two to walk me, and play with me, and feed me, and most importantly, cuddle me!  I love to snuggle and get petted gently around my ears and back!  MMmmmMMm!

Barney!!

Hi y'all!  My name's Barney!  What's yours??

Oh boy, I'm so excited!  I'm an eighteen-month-old pit bull, and I have a ton of energy and love to give!!  Can you keep up with me?  Can ya?  Huh??

The volunteers here at the APS and I really get along well!  I love people!  I aim to please, you know ... I love to learn new tricks, and wiggle around with my toys and play with balls rolling across the floor - it's all so much fun!!  I've really come out of my shell over the past few weeks here!  I used to be quite shy, but not anymore - now, playtime is my favorite time!!  (Except for food, of course!!)

Anyhow, I live in Kennel 39 - I love visitors, so come by and see me!  Maybe you'll like me too!!

Roland!

Hello!  Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Roland!

I'm a foxhound, and although I'm not entirely sure how old I am, I know that I'm an older fellow.  In fact, I am one of the elder statesmen here at the Animal Protection Society of Durham!

Because I'm an older guy, I have excellent manners.  I love to walk right next to you, and look up at you with my big smile all the time.  I don't move too awfully fast, but I can keep up with you - for a while, anyway.  Short walks, or slower paces, are best for me!

I love food treats, and giving kisses too!  See?

I like other dogs, but I don't need one to be happy.  If you already had an older or really calm dog, we'd probably get along just fine.  

The one thing I really want is a nice, comfy, warm lap - one that I can curl up on at the end of a walk, or lean on at night while we watch tv together.  Doesn't that sound nice?

Right now, I live in Kennel 29, so if I could be the guy for you, stop by and meet me!

Hi everybody!  My name is Corky!!

Aren't I cute?  

I'm a Jack Russell Terrier mix, and I'm around 3-4 years old!

Boy, this shelter business is interesting, isn't it??  I mean, there are a lot of dogs here - some of them are really big, and they make a lot of noise! But it's ok - I'm a big boy, and I can take care of myself!  Especially because I love people - they're the best!!  They feed me (which I love!!!) and play with me (which is great too) and take me out to use the lawn (whew!!) - I love people!

Do you think you could find it in your heart to take me home with you?  I'd love you forever!!

Hi!  I'm Molly!

I'm a Foxhound, and I'm almost 3 years old!!  

Boy, have I had it rough!  I was found a while ago by a wonderful person - 

when they found me, I had been outside a long, long time - I was very weak, and very very thin.  But they nursed me back to health, and now I'm much better!! 

I love to play!  I love people, too - especially when it's toy time!  I don't mind other dogs, but I don't need one to be happy.  I'd just love to go home with some folks that will love me, feed me, and always take care of me!!

Hannah! I'm at Lab Rescue!!

Hi!  I'm Hannah!!

I'm about a year old, and I'm a labrador!  So, I've gone to Lab Rescue - but I'm still up for adoption, so don't forget about me!!

I'm finally starting to settle in here at the Animal Protection Society.  I mean, don't get me wrong - the people here are great.  But, I had a home, and my family had to give me up.  I've been very sad.  But I know it's not my fault!!  So, I'm perking up a bit.

I've got lots of Lab energy - I love toys, and chasing tennis balls, and I'd probably love the water.  I can be a bit goofy sometimes, too, so I need a bit of patience from you, ok?  But you can teach me and train me up right - I'd listen, especially if you maybe had some hot dogs lying around!

Dolly!! Adopted!

Hi, everyone!  My name is Dolly!!

Great news - I went home!

Yup, sort of like Dolly Parton, but I don't really look much like her, and I'm not nearly as good of a singer.  At least, I don't think so - maybe you'll think otherwise!  You'd have to get me to speak, first - I'm a really super-quiet girl!

I'm about a year old, and I'm a pit bull mix!  I'm entirely wh

ite, but I don't think I'm deaf.  I mean, I turn my head and look when people walk by, and when dogs do things, but I'm so mellow that it's hard to tell whether I'm just curious or what!  

I might be mellow, but I sure know how to have a good time!  I love to play!!  Toys are so much fun - I like to run around and pounce on things, so you could probably teach me how to fetch.  (I'm not so good at that bringing things back to you thing yet.)  I absolutely love walk-time with people.  Best of all, though?  Other dogs!  Boy, they're so much fun!  I absolutely perk up every time a dog walks by - I get so excited!  I just want to go sniff and play and everything!

But I'm also a cuddler.  I love laps, and I'm just about small enough to fit in one, too!  But whatever I can get on your lap is fine - a paw, my head, part of my butt - that's fine too.  As long as you scratch behind my ears and on my cheeks, I'll be your bestest friend!

Why don't you come see me in Kennel 30?  I'm a Gold Star Dog - I can go to pretty much any home!!  I'd be perfect for you!

Hello, all!  My name is Cyndy!!

Aren't I cute??  Don't mind the fact that I'm a little skinny - I'm catching up, slowly but surely!!

Oh yeah!  I'm a German Shepherd, or Shepherd mix, but I'm a petite little thing, aren't I??  I'm already three or four years old, so never fear - I won't get much bigger than this!  Just better nourished, that's all!

Boy, I love these people here at the Animal Protection Society!  They're giving me lots of food, and lots of special attention!  Maybe it's because I'm pretty, or maybe it's because I'm tiny!  Nah, must be because people are cool!  I like hanging out with them - walk time is the best!!  But, I'd be happy doing whatever you wanted to do, really!  Got something else in mind?  I'm ready!

I live in Kennel 39, so if you think you could be patient and teach me the ropes a bit, I bet you'd find I'm a quick learner!  (Bring treats!!!)

Cassie!!

Hi - I'm Cassie!  

I'm about three years old, and I'm a beagle!

I'm pretty sweet and low-key, myself.  I don't know about you, but I just find it's easier to be polite and social!  No sense getting all worked up about things!

I like other dogs, as long as they feel the same way that I do - manners are nice, and so is being calm and not getting stressed out.  So, maybe a nice, sleepy male dog for a playmate?  Would that work?

I do love people, but they have to treat me kindly - nice, gentle petting is great!  I really love petting time here at the Animal Protection Society!  Boy, these volunteers are nice!
